Working with Selldorf Architects, Eurostruct built David Zwirner's five-story, 30,000-square-foot gallery on West 20th Street in Chelsea, which opened in February 2013. The building is made of board-formed concrete with teak windows and a sliding teak storefront that opens fully for moving art in and out. The ground floor holds a 5,000-square-foot column-free gallery with an 18½-foot ceiling and four north-facing sawtooth skylights. A central concrete stair, lit from a skylight above, connects all five floors. Built to museum standards, it was the first commercial art gallery in the U.S. to earn LEED certification (Gold), with five green roofs, including a terrace garden by Piet Oudolf.
